JLM Petrol Octane Booster

What is an octane booster?

Octane boosters; a lot has been said and written about them. But what are they actually good for and do you (still) really need them? JLM Lubricants investigated this and found that yes, you do need them to improve engine performance! This inspired JLM to produce our best octane booster to date.

Conventional petrol and gas engines burn fuel by igniting a mixture of petrol or gas and air with a spark. Use of incorrect or contaminated petrol, too heavy a load at low engine speeds, or insufficient engine cooling can ignite the petrol in the combustion chamber without a spark, at the wrong place, or too early, which ultimately results in engine knock. Octane reduces the chances of petrol igniting, limiting the damaging possibility of engine knock. As a result, a powerful petrol octane booster promotes better engine health and performance. So, try JLM Petrol Octane Booster to enhance your vehicle!

Benefits

  • Boosts the octane number by 4 points (depending on the type of fuel used)
  • Cleans, lubricates and cools the engine parts
  • Reduces the eventual need for expensive repairs
  • Prevents excessive wear of valves, valve seats and valve sealing surfaces
  • Optimises engine performance
  • Reduces fuel consumption
  • Eliminates irregular idling
  • Essential for (young) classic cars

Product information

Why should you use an octane booster?

  • Avoid expensive engine damage
  • Provide extra cooling and lubrication
  • Improve fuel consumption through a better performing engine

Car manufacturers have been looking for chemical solutions to prevent engine knock since the creation of the combustion engine. In 1920, General Motors engineers discovered octane. Octane, or Oxynate, is a hydrocarbon, which is extracted from petroleum and reduces the chance of, or prevents, the tendency of fuel spontaneously igniting. By adding octane as an additive to petrol, the problem of engine knocking was solved.

How does JLM Petrol Octane Booster work?

Conventional engines ignite fuel with a spark, but if petrol ignites too early while the piston is still compressing, combustion takes place while the piston is still going up, causing engine knock. As a result, the temperature in the combustion chamber increases and expensive damage can occur to the engine components - like a hole in the piston. To help avoid this, JLM created the best octane booster on the market.

Octane is an additive that consists of the organic compound methyl-tert-butyl-ether (MTBE), petrol, toluene or methyl benzene, ethyl benzene, xylene (BTEX), ethanol and lead. In addition to preventing engine knock, the components in our octane booster have a number of other advantages and provide extra cooling and lubrication as well as ensuring that the parts in the engine become contaminated less quickly.

Furthermore, the octane number is a reference value for the knock resistance of petrol. The higher the octane number, the more robust the petrol. The octane value is presented in numbered values - RON 95 and RON 98. RON 98 ensures better ignition quality and helps the fuel to ignite evenly and at the right time to safeguard your vehicle.

Modern technological developments in the automotive industry allow petrol engines to run at ever lower octane numbers without causing any problems, but if you have a classic car your vehicle lacks this technology. That’s where JLM Petrol Octane Booster (J03165) comes in!

Octane booster for classic cars and young classic cars

The cooling, lubricating and cleaning components in petrol engines have been much reduced or have even completely disappeared in modern cars. This is one of the reasons why, among other things, the fuel inlet system and the valves and valve seats of the engine get dirty quickly. Drive an LPG/Autogas vehicle? We recommend JLM Valve Saver Fluid to prevent valve seat recession.

For the engines of classic cars and modern cars that are around 15 years old or more, a (too) low octane number can be fatal. JLM Petrol Octane Booster ensures, in an environmentally friendly way, that the octane number in the fuel can be raised (boosted) by 2 to 4 points, dependent on the quality and the octane number of the fuel itself.

Petrol with an octane number of 95 can be boosted more easily than petrol with an octane number of 98. Laboratory tests show that the octane boost effect for an average fuel is approximately 3 points.

Thanks to the cleaning, cooling and lubricating properties, JLM Petrol Octane Booster improves engine performance and reduces fuel consumption. In addition, our strong octane booster ensures that the engine runs more smoothly. It also protects the valve sealing surfaces and the valve seats against excessive wear and valve impact, making JLM Petrol Octane Booster the best octane booster to support overall engine performance.

How to use JLM Petrol Octane Booster:

  1. Take one 250ml bottle of JLM Petrol Octane Booster
  2. Pour it into 40 to 60 litres of petrol
  3. JLM recommends adding the Octane Booster regularly and preferably every time the car is refuelled. 1 x 250ml octane booster is sufficient to treat 40 to 60 litres of petrol each time.
  4. The age of the car, the quality of the petrol and the country in which the car is driven will determine the lifespan of the engine.
