Here are the most frequent questions we are asked by a potential distributor.
Do I need relevant experience to promote JLM products? Yes, you will need to demonstrate experience of working with the automotive aftermarket in your territory in some capacity. For example, you may currently be selling car parts, lubricants and other associated products or are simply focussed on selling one product or one range. You may be a distributor for another brand and are interested in looking at what JLM can offer you as an alternative or in addition to. Each one of our distributors has different experience and skill sets in the automotive aftermarket so let’s discuss yours.
Am I given a dedicated territory? Yes. We do not have JLM distributors competing in the same territory. So, we will agree your territory and subject to performance over a pre agreed period it will remain your territory. Some of our distributors have small territories because of the high number of trade opportunities in their area; others are given entire countries, Australia being a relevant example. The territory you are given will depend on the structure of the automotive aftermarket in the area you are interested in. We will agree it together.
How do I sell JLM products? This varies from territory to territory. For example, some of our distributors sell online only; others sell direct to the professional technician. Some will sell to stockists only. Some sell through all channels – direct to motorists, direct to technicians and via stockists using a range of channels. Before we agree on your appointed territory, we will discuss the most effective ways to sell JLM products with you.
Do you offer sales and marketing support to your distributors? The answer to this is a big yes. It is what we are renowned for. We have a dedicated sales and marketing resource for our distributors: The JLM Academy. Ask any one of our distributors what makes JLM such an exceptional brand to promote and they will tell you the sales and marketing support is the very best on offer and that any support they received from previous brands does not come close to that offered by JLM!
MARKETING SUPPORT FOR YOUR GROWHT
The JLM marketing team includes individuals with decades of experience successfully creating campaigns for distributors and building brands.
On the technical side of the support on offer, we work closely with Darren Darling, the founder of The DPF Doctor Network (more on this later).

For all new distributors, a Sales and Marketing Audit. The purpose of this is to ensure that from the start of your distributorship being appointed, you will be aware of all the opportunities in your territory and will have a clear action plan that will enable you to sell through all the channels we have identified. We will also cover how you promote the JLM brand in your territory through channels such as advertising, PR, e-marketing, direct mail, and telephone.
For all new distributors, a Social Media Audit. This is very similar to the Sales and Marketing Audit in structure and aims. The purpose is to ensure that you are aware of the opportunities to promote JLM Lubricants through all the key social media channels and that you can do so using the winning approach which we will be discussed and agreed with you.
For all new distributors, an introduction to JLM products from Darren Darling. Darren has created online training for technicians and for JLM distributors. This training is not available through any other network. Darren is the global brand ambassador for JLM Lubricants. He produces video content which helps our distributors to understand how JLM products work in a workshop and the benefits they offer. To date we have over XX videos from Darren. As a new distributor we will encourage you to watch these exceptional videos because they provide the best ‘technical training’ of all our products in bite size format and demonstrated on real vehicles.
Every distributor receives ongoing support with high quality, professionally designed and written marketing materials including press releases for new and existing products, sales letters, e-marketing plus weekly updates sharing news, tips, and details of campaigns.
JLM Drive – this is our glossy catalogue/magazine. Every year we produce this ‘high ticket’ hugely popular publication which distributors use to promote JLM as a brand and the JLM product range to stockists and the professional technician. It is a high quality, professionally written and designed publication which receives superb reviews from stockists and mechanics alike. It has a big fan following. And it drives sales because we show our distributors how to use JLM Drive as part of their new campaigns. Marketing top tips, videos, and articles. Because our team includes skilled marketers and writers with decades of experience in the automotive aftermarket, we produce content to support our distributors when launching new and existing products in their territories. And it is this level of support that makes being a JLM distributor so attractive. We don’t just appoint a new distributor and then leave them to promote the JLM brand in their territory. We provide ongoing support, guidance, and real marketing know-how. It is tailored to your specific requirements and the opportunities in your territory.
For all distributors we offer support in setting up online shops, growing online sales and localising their JLM Lubricants’ websites.
We also have dedicated online forums for our distributors. These are active and provide a relaxed, informal environment for distributors to talk to one another and the JLM team, sharing knowhow, asking questions, telling us their good news, and showing pictures of great cars!
